Radlein Obituary |
November 21 1943. Recorded as missing June 18 1944. Missing from operations on August 11th 1943, now presumed killed, Robert Hay Wilson. Fit. Lt., R.A.F.V.R. (Hegdecock's-Southam's, F, 1935-40). Robert Wilson took a leading part in the activities of the School and Social, did valuable service as a Prefect. and was a member of many Societies. Though not an outstanding athlete, he thoroughly enjoyed his games, especially rowing and fencing, in the latter of which he represented the School. He was an accomplished flautist in the orchestra. and the military band, in which he also played the big drum, owed much to his enthusiasm. On leaving he joined the Air Force and was sent to America for training, where he was retained for some time as an instructor. Back in England he was stationed near Radley, so that we had the great enjoyment of frequently seeing him here before his final posting to pilot a Lancaster. A boy of high principles and keen sense of humour, he had a great gift for friendliness, and those of us who were privileged to be of his intimate circle will always remember his zest for life and his delightful and shrewd commentaries on it. |
