Radlein Obituary | June 17 1945. In March, 1945, as the result of an air accident, Paul Charles Williams, FIg. Off., R.A.F.V.R. (Paton's, A, 1937-42). His school years were to all appearance unusually happy ones: he had a serene and sunny nature and the gift of communicating to others something of his own joyousness, so that friends crowded round him. All who came into contact with him here found pleasure in the quick play of his sympathy and the fresh young eagerness that was rarely, if ever, daunted. Rugger was the game at which he chiefly excelled and he was a fine, hard-working forward in the sides of 1940 and 1941 (being Vice-Captain in the latter year). He had a good eye for ball games in general: he was in the First Rackets pair of 1942, and Captain of Squash, whilst he played cricket and tennis with equal enthusiasm and only slightly less skill. From our A.T.C. Squadron he went to the R.A.F. by way of the University Short Course, trained in the U.S.A., and back at home again underwent a long period of preparation for the fighting in Europe. It was a most tragic accident that caused his death so soon after his ambition of going on operations had been realised. His loss is a particularly grievous one to the very many friends whose happiness has been enhanced by knowing him. |
