| Radlein Obituary |
June 18 1944. Recorded as missing February 25 1945. Missing, now presumed killed, in January 1944, Henry Brian Despard Pringle, Flt. Off., R.A.F.V.R. (Hellard's, C, 193-33). Though he left school too young to have made his mark here, his contemporaries will remember him as a rather quiet and unassuming, but entirely genuine and unspoilt boy, small of stature, but giving of his best. He was for a time with the Gloster Aircraft Co., subsequently becoming a draftsman in Imperial Airways. Early in the War he applied to them for release in order to join the R.A.F., which he succeeded in doing in 1941. He did his training in Canada and America, and was commissioned in December, 1942. He did many operational flights over Germany, and finally failed to return from one of the big raids on Berlin. His companions in the Service spoke of him as "a grand lad, brave, unselfish, humorous, hiding his keenness for the job under a happy-go-lucky demeanour". So it is with great regret that we record the passing of another gallant soul that has given of his best. |
