Radlein Obituary | June 18 1944. In November. 1943, killed in action. John Carleton Phillips, Driver, RA. (Stephenson's, D, 1924-28). He came to Radley as a Junior Scholar, and from the first his artistic talent was his great interest. Four years after leaving school. he joined the studio of the Euston Press. and thereafter his art became his profession, and by 1937 he was Art Director for Erwin, Wasey & Co.. For a few months after the outbreak of war he was wholly employed on A.R.P., and then after a short return to his profession, he joined the Army in 1940 as a Gunner. In 1942 he was sent to the Middle East winning the Africa Star and Eighth Army Star. |
