Radlein Obituary | November 21 1943. In September, 1943, killed in action, David Shaw Maxwell, Capt., RA. (Boyd's-Morgan's, G, 1933-38). Few of us will forget the stentorian shouts of "Boats" Maxwell on the tow-path. He was essentially such a vigorous person that it is difficult to realise that we have lost him. His activities at Radley were so varied and into them he always threw all his energies. He was in the 1st XV, the Boxing Team and the Athletics Team. He was an extremely energetic Head of his Social. But he will be remembered best of all as the most unlucky of all Captains of Boats, the one whom the Woolwich examination prevented from rowing in the crew which won the Ladies' Plate. It was a disappointment which he must have felt deeply though he never showed it and certainly never let it interfere with his enthusiasm over the crew's success. His qualities of vigour can ill he spared and we shall miss him deeply. |
