Radlein Obituary November 21 1943. Recorded as 'missing, Aug. 1943' in the list of Radleians serving in the Armed Forces
November 19 1944. Previously reported missing in Sicily, now reported died of wounds in enemy hands in August 1943, John Stewart Lindsay-MacDougall, DSO, MC, Maj., A. & S.H., (Smale's, H, 1924-28). Lindsay, as he was known at Radley, was much respected, especially during the latter part of his time. Clever, and a most loyal member of his Social, he was in the Sixth Form for a long time, and entered enthusiastically into the many inter-social competitions in which Smale's were so victorious at that time. He was modest, frank and very resolute. He always intended going into the Army, and, on leaving, won a Sandhurst Cadet Scholarship. He was wounded in North Africa in 1943, and his distinguished record during this war, in which he was awarded the DSO and MC proved how suited he was to his profession.
