Radlein Obituary November 21 1943. In August, 1943, drowned on active service, Howard Richard Laurence, Lt .R.A. (Smale's, H, 1932-36). Howard Laurence came to Radley as a Junior Scholar and more than fulfilled his early promise. He had a nimble and critical mind and all his teachers found him a most refreshing and engaging pupil. He won the Heathcote and Gibbs Scholarships, the Worsley Prize, the Greek and Latin Prose Prizes, and finally obtained a Classical Scholarship at Trinity College, Cambridge. Except at Henley, where he was always to be found, we saw little of him after he left Radley. But he was always eager for news and his last letter came only a few weeks before his death .
