| Radlein Obituary |
November 17 1940. Recorded as missing March 16 1941. Recorded as missing. June 15 1941. Missing at Dunkirk in May 1940, and now presumed killed, Jonathan Maynard Knowles (I927-1932, Hope's, E). He was in the Eight in 1931 and I932, and on going up to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, took a large part In the very successful revival of rowing at that College in the years I932-I935. After a period at Mirfield. he was ordained to St. Mary's, Usk, in I937, and had already made his mark there when on the outbreak of war he joined the Army as a chaplain. One of the most staunch and reliable of men, many of his contemporaries at Radley will feel that they have lost a friend, whom, above all, they could trust. Full of unswerving loyalty to whatever cause he was serving he was a person of great influence and his is a great loss. |
