Radlein Obituary |
June 14 1942. Recorded as missing October 18 1942. Robert Hugh Irvine who was previously reported missing, is now known to have been killed in action in Malaya on 13th February, 1942. The youngest of three brothers from Drum, Aberdeenshire, who were at Radley (Nugee's, B) he was at school from 1932 to 1937. On leaving he went to Edinburgh University and intended to be a solicitor. He joined the Gordon Highlanders on the outbreak of war., and was sent to Malaya where his regiment was in the thick of the fighting. Many of his contemporaries will miss this cheerful member of their time, with his round face and fund of good humour. There is little doubt that he made the best kind of regimental officer. |
