Radlein Obituary | November 21 1943. Kiilled in action with the Middle East Forces in October 1943, Peter Fernie Hardcastle, Lieutenant, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry (Hedgecock's, F, 1933-38). He was an alert intelligent, boy, and he gained the School Certificate with five credits within twelve months of entering the School. He then passed through the Classical Remove into the Classical Sixth Form and secured the Higher Certificate. He was a keen member of his house and he took an increasingly prominent part in its activities. Peter possessed a strong personality. He formed his own opinions and fearlessly carried out his duties when he became a House and later a School Prefect. He was always busy and he enjoyed to the full everything which took place, literary meetings, debates and informal discussions. He will be remembered by everyone for his excellent acting in the Dramatic Society of which he was for one year the secretary. In 1938 he entered Oriel College, but the War cut short his work at the University, and it has now deprived us of a loyal school-fellow and true friend, and his country has lost a promising citizen. We extend our deepest sympathy to his mother and his brother. |
