Radlein Obituary November 17 1940. In 1940, killed in action, near Abbeville, France. Douglas William Gordon, OBE, Major, The Gordon Highlanders.
It is with deep regret that we have to report the death of Douglas Gordon in the fighting in France in the early summer. For some months he had acted as personal assistant to the C.-in-C. and was universally popular in the B.E.F. in that capacity, being an officer of great energy and keenness in his profession. He was at Radley (Bryans's G) from 1913-1917, that is during most of the last war, was a Prefect. stroke of the VIII, Victor Ludorum, and in the newly-started Football XV. He passed into Sandhurst in 1918 and joined the Gordon Highlanders. He passed through the Staff College, and saw service in many lands. He rejoined his regiment when active fighting began and fell in action- "miles et pro patria ".
