Radlein Obituary June 18 1944. In May, 1944, killed in action, Robert Preston Gill. Major, 16th/5th Lancers (Hope's, E, 1930-34). The son of an Old Radleian, he cane to us from Stone House, and soon showed himself to be of a cheerful and friendly disposition. He was one of those boys who, though not outstanding at school, reach a very fair standard in all that they attempt. He was in the Modern Sixth Form, had a place in the 1934 Boxing Team. and was a useful bat and also football player for the Social. As a horse-lover, he had always intended to go into the Cavalry. On leaving, he passed into Sandhurst and in 1936 was commissioned in the 16th/5th Lancers. He saw much active service in North Africa and Italy. He was wounded early in 1943, but was fit and in action again by May, and saw another year's campaigning before his death.
