There is no further record of the son, who is not entered in the Radley register for 1954-6, although applications were received by the War Memorial Fund on his behalf War Memorial Fund (1943) Ctte minutes 29.5.1946: 'Applications on behalf of thirteen boys were considered. Twelve of the candidates were sons of ORs who had been killed in the war and one a nephew - [due] 1956 Francis, DNC, 11th birthday 8 August 1953.' |

March 8 1942. In December 1941, killed in action, Noel Inglis Chalmers Francis (Smale's, H, 1932-34), Flight Lieutenant, R.A.F. Though he was at Radley for such a short time, he will be remembered with great affection by those who knew him, as a cheerful boy with an unassuming charm of manner who threw himself whole-heartedly into the life of his Social. He took up flying before the war and was gazetted Acting Pilot-Officer in June, 1938. October 18 1942. BIRTH. To N.I.C. Francis, Flt. Lt., RA.F., killed on active service, a son (who has been entered for Radley). |
