Radlein Obituary | November 19 1944. In May 1944, killed in action in Italy, Brian Downing Eveleigh, Captain, R.A.C. (Hedgecock's, F, 1932-36). Brian Eveleigh came to Radley from Lambrook, and quickly became absorbed in the life of the school. He was keen on chemistry and was always busily occupied whenever he found the necessary time from duties or studies. He was a sturdy but not very polished oarsman, and rugger player, a he rowed in the School 3rd VIII. He always had an idea of going into the fighting services. At first he favoured the Air Force but eventually decided on the Army. After getting Cert. A and the School Certificate, he gained a Cadet Scholarship at the R.M.C. Sandhurst. From there he joined the 16th/5th Lancers. He was wounded in 1943. He will be remembered by his school fellows for his cheerfulness and sturdy courage, while masters mourn the loss of a very natural boy who was full of the exuberance of youth and of kindliness of disposition. |
