Radlein Obituary |
November 23 1941. Recorded as missing June 14 1942. Recorded on the Roll of Honour November 25 1945. Previously reported missing, now known to have been killed in action in Greece, 26th April, 1941, Martin Charles William Dumaresq, Captain, R.A. (Nugee's, B, 1929-34) Martin Dumaresq came to Radley as an Exhibitioner and remained a scholar at heart all his time here. He left with a Classical Exhibition to Worcester College, Oxford. But he was also a Prefect and Head of his Social, President of the Musical Society, a member of the Hockey Xl and so on. He served his generation well. On leaving Oxford he joined the R.A. with a University Commission and was the type that the Army could ill afford to lose. Thoughtful, conscientious and hard working; and with all that he had the kind of gentleness which is so attractive. We know of many that will be sad to know that he died in the gallant but vain attempt to save Greece. |
