Radlein Obituary February 18 1943. On 28th April, 1942, "missing, believed kilIed", Edward Birley Downs (Stevenson's-Watkins's, D) 1934-39. In the course of a career here very much handicapped by illness, he rowed for his Social, won a music prize and took a very vigorous part in the Dramatic Society's activities behind the scenes, On leaving Radley he joined the Auxiliary Fire Service in London. Then, after an operation, he managed to pass the medical examination for the R.A.F. and qualified as a Sergeant-Observer. At the time of his death he was on the point of promotion to commissioned rank.
