Radlein Obituary |
June 18 1944. Died of wounds in Burma on May 11th, 1944, Thomas Deakin, Major, Royal Frontier Force Regt., Indian Army (E), (Hope's, E, 1930-34). When he first came, he appeared rather quiet and reserved, but in his last two years here he developed suddenly and showed himself a person of considerable character, and at the same time a delightful one to have any dealings with. Always popular with his contemporaries his loss will be deeply felt by those who knew him at Radley. He achieved many successes in his career here. He was a School Prefect and in the Sixth Form. He was a fast wing three-quarter in the XV in his last term. Earlier in the year he won three first places and three seconds in the Sports, being Victor Ludorum, the last person at Radley to receive hat title; and he also rowed bow in the winning 2nd VIII at Marlow, the crew that was probably the best one we have sent to that Regatta, After leaving, he studied Law, and passed his Solicitors' Final just before joining up. He was commissioned in the King's Own Regiment in July, 1940, and, going to India in 1942, was transferred to the Indian Army in 1943. |
