Radlein Obituary |
October 18 1942. Recorded as a prisoner of war June 13 1943. On 16th April, 1943, died at Mecerata, Italy, while a prisoner of war , David Compton Connor, Gunner, R.A. He was at Radley (Hope 's, E) from 193-1- 1939. He was a Junior Prefect, in the Upper Sixth Form, and rowed in the Eight in 1939. David Connor was one who was able to enjoy a wide variety of things, whether academical or athletic, and, as a result, he thoroughly enjoyed Radley life. While at school his studies were as important to him as were his sporting activities and this all-round-ness would have served him so well in postwar life. He was one of the few Radleians to experience American college life at Tabor Academy, and it must have been a great year for him, to judge from his letters. . As a friend, he was a grand fellow, all that a friend could be. As the human mind is incapable of understanding the reason and necessity for this death, let those of us who knew David and enjoyed his friendship remember him until we too are in a position to understand. |
