Radlein Obituary | November 23 1941. In August, 1941, on active service, John Compton, Flight Lieut .RA.F. He was at Radley (Smale's, H) from 1925-1930 and was a House Prefect. He was also a very versatile athlete. He was a first-class Rugger forward, a very good long distance runner and a good heavy-weight boxer. On leaving Radley he went to a firm of Chartered Accountants but later joined the RA.F. After 1937 he served with Fleet Air Arm squadrons in the 'Furious' in the Home Fleet and the 'Eagle' in China. He was promoted to Flight Lieut. in 1940. He will be sadly missed by many of his contemporaries at Radley, and will always be remembered as a very vigorous member of a very vigorous generation. |
