Radlein Obituary | June 16th 1940. Killed in action in Flanders, May 1940, Neville Murray Collins. The eldest son of Lt.-Col. Neville Collins, O.R, he came to Radley (Mr. Nugee's, B) as a Junior Scholar in the summer of 1932. He was a House Prefect and also Heathcote Classical Scholar. Although a good runner (he won he Senior 220 yards in 1936) his chief interests and activities were literary. As clerk of the Debating Society he will be remembered by his contemporaries for his forceful speeches. His style was humorous, racy and convincing. He was a great supporter of the Classical and Political Societies and for two years was an editor of the Radleian. After leaving he went up to Bailiol College, Oxford, where he got a second class Honour Mods. He had always intended to enter the Army as a University Candidate and in November 1939, he was gazetted to the Royal Fusiliers. |
