Radlein Obituary |
November 21 1943. Recorded as missing June 18 1944. Missing, presumed killed, in Sept., 1943. John Blair Cochrane, Pilot Off., R.A.F.V.R (Morgan's, G. 1939-41). It is not given to many to enjoy such popularity among boys and masters as was John Cochrane's. He achieved this not by intellectual or athletic distinction, but by qualities of character which never failed to endear him to his contemporaries. He was constantly in difficulties both in the classroom and over small breaches of discipline outside. But he never allowed himself to be depressed and was always cheerful, always ready to try again. "His innate goodness, his absolute honesty of purpose and love of fair play. his cheerfulness under all conditions, his love of nature and of animals, his unfailing kindness to all living things, all these made him an example and inspiration to others." This was written by one who knew him well; no one could wish a higher tribute or deserve it better than John Cochrane. |
