Radlein Obituary | February 25 1945. Killed in action in October, 1944, Ernest. Roy Ryder Clark, Lnc. Corpl., 1st Royal Natal Carabineers (Birt's, E, 1916-21). E. R. R. Clark adopted the Law as his profession, and practised in London till in 1936 he went to South Africa under the aegis of the 1820 Memorial Settlers Association to take up farming. On the outbreak of war he joined the First City Regt. in Grahamstown, but, when it seemed likely that the regiment would remain in the Union for some time, he transferred to the Natal Carabineers and fought with them right through the North African campaign. The Division then returned to South Africa, but Clark returned to the fighting front again and was in the thick of the Italian Campaign. He was of a studious and retiring nature, and perhaps this was why he refused a commission. His devotion to duty, and readiness to give all he had, were characteristic of him, and Radley has lost a faithful son. |
