| Radlein Obituary | November 21 1943. In August, 1943 , on active service, John Cecil Smith , FIt. Lt., R.A.F.V.R He came to Radley (Hope's, E) in 1933 from Colet Court School, of which his father, L. Cecil Smith , O.R.., was Head Master. Before he left in 1937, he was a House Prefect and was taking his part in many aspects of school life. His contemporaries will regret the loss of a pleasant and cheerful companion, with a great fund of quiet humour. After he left Radley he spent a year at Tabor Academy, U.S.A. where, being a good "mixer" , he became a very successful representative of Radley, under the school exchanges system . He joined the R.A. F.V.R.. in the early days of the war and was commissioned as a pilot in April 1941. After two years of instructing he was, at his own request. transferred to operations and not long after met his end while on active service. |
