Radlein Obituary November 21 1943. In September 1943, killed in action, John Prideux Carpenter-Garnier (Hedgccock 's-Southam's, F, 1935-40), Lieut., Scots Guards. John Carpenter-Gamier was a boy of the highest principle, and a delightful companion. Though quiet and unassuming, he became a House Prefect and always entered whole-heartedly into the life of the School and SociaI, being especially interested in dramatic and musical activities. After leaving Radley he went up to Christ Church where he gained Cert. B, and then worked for Toc H in the Orkneys before going to the O.C.T.U. He was commissioned to the Scots Guards in 1942 and shortly afterwards went overseas. His letters show a vivid interest in his army life and his pleasure at meeting Old Radleians abroad, who will learn of his loss with great sorrow.
