Radlein Obituary | March 10 1946. KiIled in an accident in India on 19th Oct., 1945. James Boucher. Capt., R.A. (El, (Macpherson's, Paton's, A, 1933-38). Jim Boucher was a distinguished member of that Radley generation which grew up in the feverish years of the Nazi menace and which bore the full brunt of the war. After a fine school career, during which he was a School Prefect and Head of his House, and participated actively in sports and societies, he went with a Classical Exhibition to Worcester College, Oxford. The outbreak of war cut short his time there, and sent him to the R.A. and multifarious Army duties which carried him busily through the years of crisis. It is peculiarly sad that, when he had seen the fighting through, he should have lost his life in an accident. His loss is a very grievous one to those who remember his fine character and well-matured abilities. He had scholarly tastes and the perseverance to develop them. The conscientious maintenance of high principles marked his dealings with his fellows, and all was sweetened by a quiet humour and an affectionate grin. In a visit he paid us last year before sailing for India, it was good to see that he had lost none of his boyish enthusiasm and his relish for life as it unfolded before him. At Radley he will long be mourned and held in remembrance. |
