Radlein Obituary |
June 18 1944. Recorded as missing June 16 1946. Missing in Italy, Feb.. 1944, now presumed killed, Charles James WilIiam Bartlet, Lt., Irish Guards (E), (Boyd's, Morgan's, G, 1933-38). Charles Bartlet, of whom we have awaited news for so long, has now been officially presumed killed. It is not difficult for those who knew him well to visualise one of the last pictures of him, stemming a rush in the Anzio beach-head by "dealing out grenades, as though from a pack of cards, under the oncoming tanks". As a boy at Radley he was calm and determined in everything that he did. and was obviously one who might someday become a leader of men. He was last seen badly wounded and in enemy hands, and no trace of him has since been discovered. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family in their long anxiety. |
