A friend of Siegfried Sassoon, Richardson is mentioned in Sassoon's 'Memoirs of a fox-hunting man'. He took part in the Boxing Day football match in 1915. His mother published a memoir in 1920. A full account of his life was prepared for the RFW Museum in 2009

SIR, I have it in command from His Majesty the King to informed you as next of kin of the late Captain Mervyn Stronge Richardson of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, that this officer was mentioned in a Dispatch from Sir Douglas Haig dated 30th April, 1916 for gallant and distinguished service in the field. I am to express to you the King's high appreciation of these services, and to add that His Majesty trusts that their public acknowledgment may be of some consolation In your bereavement.
