Alfred Edward Cecil Cart de Lafontaine, 1st Batt E. Yorkshire Regt. For conspicuous gallantry and coolness during the attack on Hooge on 9th August, 1915, when he reorganized portions of several companies and led them back to their original positions under heavy shell fire. 24.7.1920. The Radleian. Memorial A Sheffield Plate Loving Cup, which is said to have been used at Gaudy on some occasions in the past, and was the property of an Oxford silversmith, has been presented to the College by Mr. Alfred de Lafontaine, in memory of his nephew, Captain A. E. C. Cart·de Lafontaine (O.R.), who fell in the war. Mr. de Lafontaine has had the College arms engraved upon the Cup, and a suitable inscription put upon the base, and we owe him our best thanks for this interesting gift, which handsomely adorns High Table in Hall. |
