Radlein Obituary June 17 1945. Recorded as missing
November 25 1945. Missing, now known to have been shot after capture in the Vosges by the Germans in Nov. 1944, David Gordon Dill, Lt., 60th Rifles, att. 2nd S.A.S. Regt. (Paton's, A, 1937-42 ). David Dill's army life in which he found exceptional happiness and achieved distinction followed upon a school career in which he had already shown that he possessed a strong zest for adventure. In all his activities here he was keen and enterprising; he loved all sports of the open air, especially shooting and beagling. Few boys had a wider circle of friends for he had the knack of communicating to others his own infectious gaiety and high spirits. It was not surprising to find him volunteering for service with the S.A.S. Regiment, and last year he parachuted into Alsace on a special operation. His mission was attended by a considerable measure of success for which he was mentioned in despatches and awarded the Croix de Guerre. The coldblooded shooting of David and his companions after capture was one more of the many infamies by which the Germans disgraced our common humanity, and has profoundly shocked all of us who knew him and now mourn a sad and grievous loss.
