Radlein Obituary October 18 1942. In June. 1942, on active service. Michael Henry Beaufoy, Sergeant Observer R.A.F.V.R. (Cocks's 1936-1940). Michael Beaufoy will perhaps be best remembered by those who knew him here for his exceedingly friendly and cheerful disposition. Though possibly not of outstanding prominence in any particular direction at school, he was one of those very loyal and useful people who lead happily normal lives and finish up by being sound and efficient House Prefects. The same proved true of him in the Air Force, where his friendliness towards all and sundry eventually induced him even to refuse a Commission on the ground that he did not wish to be on a different footing from his felIows. He was setting out for a German objective when the fatal crash occurred. His C.O. said of him: ."His operational record was a fine one. He had all those qualities of courage and determination so necessary in an aircrew of Bomber Command. His loss to the squadron is a grave one. We shall all miss him, for he was as popular with the officers as with the N.C.O.s. I rated him one of my best." No one could have a finer epitaph than that.
